This is a festival of all things Cavan. Nyah celebrates the roots of Irish culture Now in the Fourth year, the NYAH Arts festival celebrates the traditional music, song, dance and culture of County Cavan, the Ulster tradition and the county’s very own musical style. Michael Harding, writer calls the Cavan style ‘enigmatic and unpredictable’, claiming that ‘Cavan music is a lace-maker’s music’. And Cavan can lay claim to Ed Reavy, one of the most performed Irish composers in the world.
The Nyah Festival will feature no end of extra trad sessions and “fringe events”. Acts and events will include Will of the Wisp From Italy, Jig of Life Awards , Belturbet Samba Band, Brian Mac Namara, Robbie Hannan , Dermot McLoughlin, MCavan Multi-Cultural Network’s celebration of foods from around the world and music to mark the International Day Against Racism, a Traditional Singers’ Session, and open air concerts, lectures and music and song workshops.
The Nyah Sessions have previously attracted the top names in Irish music in the country. And the best musicians from the tradition will be spinning down Breffni roads again to play at several of the sessions during the year .
