Born in Ennistymon, Co. Clare, Terence O’Flaherty grew up in a family of singers and learned his earliest songs from local musicians and from travelling storytellers and singers. He was also a choirboy who sang in Latin under the tutelage of Brother Histon from the local monastery.
Terence emigrated to London in 1971 and eventually found himself part of the popular pub band Crusheen with Kevin Shanahan, Chris Hayes and Joe Searson. He later assembled a band called Collaboration which brought together musicians from many different backgrounds including classical, jazz and funk. They made several recordings for the BBC and gigs included the Cambridge Folk Festival.
Terence’s music has taken him to most parts of the UK and also to Europe and America. His long-awaited debut album Crosscurrents was launched last year and has received rave reviews.
