Comhaltas in Ballinasloe was founded in 1959 and has being in existence even since.The branch celebrated its 50th Anniversary in 2004.The branch has hosted County Fleadhs and Connacht Fleadhs over the years. The last Fleadh hosted was the Connacht Fleadh in 2004.
To commemorate the 50th Anniversary the branch launched a cd to celebrate the dedicated musicians and singers we have had over the years and still do. At present the branch hold monthly singers club in the Dunlo Tavern Ballinasloe under the name of the Ballinasloe Singers Circle all singers are welcome,well worth a visit between Sept to June if you in town.
Junior Music Sessions are held every 3-4 weeks between Sept and June to give younger musicians and singers of all levels a chance to play and hear each other it is held in different venues throughout the town and is enhanced by the guidance and participation of one senior musician.The junior sessions have certainly improved the level of youth playing in the town.
The branch has come a long way since 1959 and hopefully will grow in strength.
