This week’s programme features more music from Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann, held at Tullamore, Co. Offaly in August 2008. From the Under-18 fiddle competition, we see the fine young players Bronwyn De Paor, Dylan Foley, Eoghan McKenna, Rhona Lynch, Aidan Connolly and Brian Lindsay. From the Senior Céilí Band competition, we have the Dartry and Isle of Man Céilí Bands.

This segment was recorded at the 2008 Senior Céilí Band competition at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann in Tullamore, Co. Offaly, where they took 2nd place. Band members are: John Kilkenny, Mossie Martin, Declan Folan and Philip Duffy, fiddles; Noelle Carroll and June McCormack, flutes; Michael Rooney, concertina; Stephen Nolan, accordion; Damien McGuinness, drums and Kevin Brehony, piano.

13:35 Brian Lindsay of CCÉ Mulligan-Quinn in Mineola, New York, USA plays “The Drunken Sailor” five-part hornpipe in the Under-18 fiddle competition at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2008. In ComhaltasLive Programme #275 we had another interpretation of the same hornpipe played by Síofra Nic Aodha from Co. Mayo. In Programme #260, Edel Fox played the same piece on concertina.
17:51 Returning to the Senior Céilí Band competition at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉirean 2008, here the Isle of Man Céilí Band from Laxey, Isle of Man plays a selection of jigs, including “Father Kelly’s” and “The Frost is All Over”. Band members are: Katie Lawrence, David Kilgallon, Adam Rhodes, fiddles; Rachel Higham and Patrick Knight, flutes; Rebecca Hurst, concertina; Mary Molloy, button accordion; Russell Cowin, double bass; Kirsty Lawrence, piano and John Ryan, drums.
