Multi-instrumentalist Tara Breen is one of the Tutors with TradTime (Comhaltas Schools Outreach) the exciting new scheme for the teaching of traditional Irish music, song and dance in primary schools around the country.
TradTime is presently compiling a panel of potential Tutors for every county over the coming weeks (up to mid-August). Persons who have the necessary skills, expertise, reliability, etc. can get an application form and full details at www.tradtime.ie.
Here Tara plays “The Caucus Reel” on the tin whistle.

One of the Tutors with the TradTime (Comhaltas Schools Outreach) scheme, Enda Seery from Co. Westmeath plays two of his own composition (jigs) - “Santa Cruz” and “Friends from the States”. TradTime is the new scheme for the teaching of traditional Irish music, song and dance in primary schools around the country.

The Mulcahy family from West Limerick with Michelle on concertina, Louise on flute and their father Mick on accordion, play three reels - “Michael Anderson’s”, “The Drunken Landlady” and “The New Line”. Recorded at a special concert on 17th May 2014 in the Lime Tree Theatre, Limerick to celebrate the launch of the exciting new TradTime (Comhaltas Schools Outreach) Scheme for the teaching of traditional Irish music, song and dance in primary schools around the country.

Three times All-Ireland tin whistle champion (under-12 in 2005 and 2006, under 15 in 2009) Kieran Flavin from Knockanure, Listowel, Co. Kerry plays two jigs, ending with “The Cat’s Meow” (by Joannie Madden).
Kieran learned his music in Ballygilltinan Primary School in West Limerick under the Schools Music Outreach Scheme developed by Willie Larkin and launched on a national basis recently and available to all primary schools countrywide. Already there has been a considerable uptake of the scheme. See www.schoolsoutreach.ie.

All-Ireland champion concertina player Mairéad Corridan from Templeglantine CCÉ in West Limerick plays two reels - “Hughie’s Cap” (by Ed Reavy) and “The Maids of Mitchelstown”. Mairéad learned her early music at National School in Abbeyfeale, Co. Limerick under the Comhaltas Schools Outreach scheme (CSO), which was being piloted and developed by Willie Larkin. The scheme has now been launched and is available to schools all over the country. Interested schools, as well as potential teachers, should contact www.schoolsoutreach.ie.

A selection of slides recorded on the 2nd of February 2012 in Templeglantine in West Limerick by Bríd Murphy (fiddle), Willie Larkin (accordion) and Kieran Flavin (bodhrán). Willie has recently set up a new national scheme for the teaching of music in primary schools around the country - the Comhaltas Schools Outreach (CSO), the website www.schoolsoutreach.ie gives a very good outline of the scheme as well as a very enthusiastic endorsement by Minister for the Arts, Heritage and the Gealtacht Jimmy Deenihan. Incidentally Kieran learned his music at primary school where Willie was researching and developing the scheme on a pilot basis over the last six or seven years. Kieran has since won three All-Ireland titles on tin whistle. Interested schools and music teachers should refer to the website.
