The Connemara Set danced by 8 members of the Shannon Dunne Dancers from Silveresprings, MD at the Comhaltas North America Convention in Washington, USA in April 2013. Music is by fiddle player Graham DeZarn and Keith Carr on Bouzouki. Dancers are Andrea Cossettini, Rebecca McGowan, Bridget, Molly Rehben, Rebecca Sumnurdur, Patricia Flannagan, Rob Byrnes and Ann Marie Breheny.

In last week’s programme, we featured a selection of reels by Gerry ‘Banjo’ O’Connor. Jerry is also well-known as a member of the group ‘Four Men and a Dog’. Box player with the group is Donal Murphy from Abbeyfeale, Co. Limerick, who now plays a selection of jigs with flute player Eamon Riordan from Athea, Co. Limerick and Brian Mooney from Brosna, Co. Kerry on bazouki.

From the West Limerick 102 Radio Concert 2007, we present three generations of the Murphy family from Abbeyfeale. The group is led by Donal, who is well known as the accordion player with the group “Four Men and a Dog”. In this selection of jigs, Donal is first joined by his young daughter Melanie on fiddle and later by his father Dan on accordion, his sister Eilish on flute and brothers Kevin and Séan on banjo and bouzouki. The jigs are: “Anthony Frawley’s”, “An Seanduine” and “Out on the Ocean”. CDs and DVDs of the full concert in Abbeyfeale in November 2007 will be available at the end of April.

In 1949 Mike Rafferty emigrated from his native Ballinaskill, Co. Galway to the USA. He is still playing his distinctive East Galway music. Mike, now living in New Jersey, is joined by his daughter Mary on button accordion and her husband, Donal Clancy (son of legendary Liam Clancy) on guitar as they play two jigs: “The Lilting Banshee” and a jig which Mike learned nearly sixty years ago from his father.

Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh, well-known traditional singer and musician of Danú fame sings “An Spealadóir” (a West Kerry song) and together with Michelle Mulcahy on accordion follows with two reels: “The Caucus” and “The Wind That Shakes The Barley”. Accompaniment is by Billy Mc Glynn on bouzouki.
They were recorded at the Peig Ryan Tribute Concert held in June of 2007.
