Oideachas sa Chraobh

Through its global branch network, Comhaltas offer hundreds of classes each week in a variety of traditional instruments, singing, dance and the Irish language.

For children and young people, these classes are a great introduction to the lifelong pleasure that playing an instrument can bring as they build their confidence playing in a group setting and work on their performance skills. Students also have the opportunity to take part in competition, to play in sessions, and to attend summer schools such as Scoil Éigse at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann.

For adults, it’s a great opportunity to finally follow a life-long dream to learn the whistle or fiddle, try a few steps of Sean Nós or simply build back your confidence to have a conversation ‘as Gaeilge’.

Campaí Samhraidh (Summer Camps)

A number of courses in Irish traditional music, aimed at young people, take place around Ireland to coincide with the school holidays.

These range from Residential Courses to Campaí Samhraidh (Summer Camps) and many feature the same tutors who teach music at Comhaltas branch level.

Comhaltas Campaí Samhraidh are non residential and aimed at primary school aged children with the emphasis more on fun and enjoyment giving an opportunity to play music, sing songs in Irish and English and to learn Sean Nós and Céili dancing. Tuition on various instruments is provided for beginners and improvers. Campaí Samhraidh usually conclude with a concert and céili to which parents and other family members are invited.

Residential Courses, which take place over a week, involve a live-in experience of total immersion in traditional music and are generally aimed at 2nd level students with a proficiency in their instrument. Tuition is from highly accomplished players and can involve a range of activities including arrangement and composition workshops as well as a finale concert at the end of the week.
