Volunteering with Comhaltas

Comhaltas is a voluntary community-based movement and is organised into local branches, where most activities and classes take place. With over 450 branches worldwide, there is a Comhaltas branch near you.

Comhaltas has a dedicated network of volunteers who support and enable the development of Irish culture, especially music, within their local communities throughout Ireland and across the globe.  Our local branches are always looking for volunteers to help out with our activities.

Each year, up to 50,000 people volunteer with Comhaltas, all playing a part in ensuring the vibrancy of the traditional living arts and sharing its appreciation with the upcoming generation of performers.

How to Volunteer

Each year, thousands volunteer for Comhaltas activities, especially at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann. But many also give their time to help out at Provincial and County Fleadhanna, and at their local branch.

It is always a good idea to volunteer help in areas you have some experience with and enjoy doing. For example if you are skilled with a camera or smart phone camera you can help with public relations, if you are good at organising, you might like to help out as a clerk at competitions or if you enjoy meeting people you could help with stewarding. There are many ways to help and here are some suggestions on how to go about it;

Branch

Volunteering at branch level can include committee membership in areas such as secretarial, financial, promotional and administration. Being a volunteer in a branch can also include helping out at branch events such as concerts and workshops. You can find out more and offer to volunteer by contacting the Secretary of your local branch committee.

Fleadh

Volunteers are very welcome at County, Provincial and All Ireland fleadhanna and can get involved in a range of activities including competition clerk, stewarding at venues or car parks, helping at the Fleadh Office or getting involved in promotional activity such as putting up fleadh signage or taking photographs of sessions and events. If you would like to help out, please contact your local branch first and they will put you in contact with the relevant fleadh organiser who will let you know which areas they need assistance with.

Volunteering has been proven to enhance the health and well-being of those who take part and also provides an opportunity for making new friends as well as acquiring new skills for the future.

Comhaltas offers and supports volunteering opportunities for all people regardless of age, race, religion, ethnicity, disability, gender or sexual orientation.
